Just outside of Montclair in Bloomfield, Brookdale Park is one of the best parks in the area. The playground is the main attraction for kids in the area, with areas for younger and older children alike. There is also a tall climbing rope net and merry-go-round. Bonus: There is a rose garden and dog park in the 121 acre park, as well!
The go-to ice cream spot in the area, AppleGate Farm is known as “Sweet Scoops of the Past,” since this farm has been offering fresh dairy products since 1848. You will get homemade ice cream and a multitude of flavors at this spot. Isn’t ice cream always a good idea?
A popular Montclair spot, Montclair Art Museum is filled with interesting items and exhibit programs. There are workshops for all ages, including drawing classes, mixed media classes, and summer camp options. The museum also offers teen nights, with live music and food. You can visit the museum by purchasing a daily pass or a membership, and will have access to all of the incredible artwork they feature!
Looking for some awesome local book stores to check out? Watchung Booksellers in Montclair is your go-to neighborhood hub, where you can peruse and leave with an awesome new read. The owner prides herself on representing the community through the store’s offerings, from its diversity to its local authors. East Street Mags in Montclair is where you go when you are looking for that perfect comic book issue or collectible item. You can find comics, graphic novels, action figures, t-shirts, stickers, and even work from local authors/artists. You can take art classes here, too!
The Chit Chat Diner in West Orange is a unique eatery that is a local favorite. Between the decor (everything is Mackenzie-Childs, so it has serious Alice in Wonderland vibes), the delicious food and a comfortable atmosphere, this spot is not to be missed. There are even little boxes on the table that say, “Let’s chit chat,” with conversation topics. How fun is that?!
Located 20 minutes from Montclair, the Turtle Back Zoo is a favorite destination for families in the area. Fun for all ages, your family can see many different animals from penguins to monkeys to bears to giraffes and lions. There is a train ride that goes around the park (get there early because there is usually a line!), a carousel, pony rides, animal feeding, a butterfly tent, and more.
