p family ~ rainbow baby of all rainbows

This family’s story touched my heart. The mom reached out to me about scheduling a maternity and newborn session— and also wanted to add some time to the newborn session so that she could get her parents into the mix. When I sent out my pre-session questionnaire, she noted that her “story would not be complete without mentioning the trauma around [her first] pregnancy.” She was pregnant with identical twins and had a host of pregnancy complications that resulted in their early births at 26 weeks. Both were in the NICU for awhile, but after 7 hard-fought weeks, one of her twin daughters passed away. The other was in the NICU for 74 days before her homecoming, which was followed by many therapies and interventions. Today, she is a healthy, energetic, thriving BIG SISTER to her new baby brother.

It took awhile before my clients were ready to try again for another baby after the loss of their daughter, and when they did, they suffered a miscarriage. So this little guy is a double rainbow— and the most beautiful rainbow! After meeting this family and hearing their story, I feel so grateful that I was chosen to be the one to capture these incredibly special moments for them. We squeezed their maternity session in right before Thanksgiving and then this little guy came a few weeks early— the very next week! We were gifted a beautiful sunset for that outdoor session in a local garden. The almost-big sister loved hugging her mama’s belly (or did she LOL) and getting lots of tickles and attention from her parents.

When I got to meet the new addition a few weeks later at the newborn session (as well as the grandparents), it was clear just how loved he is. His big sister absolutely loved holding him and giving him lots of hugs and kisses. She also got to spend a lot of time playing with her grandparents while I was photographing the baby by himself.

This family is so kind and wonderful. You would never know all that they have faced over the years together. I will always consider myself lucky that I am the one to tell the story of their beautiful right-now.
