g family ~ a year of growing

NJ Birthday Cake Smash

If you follow my blog posts, you may remember this little boy. He was in the NICU for awhile because he was born premature and when he came home, he was still on oxygen all day/night. I follow his mama on social media, so I knew that he had grown so much over the past year but WOW, when I saw him in person! Forget about adjusted age, he has caught up to the milestones that babies born at term are accomplishing.

His parents brought a pillow that they had had had custom-made when he was born— it was the same size and weight at which he was born. Definitely a cool little keepsake to take a photo with at the first birthday session 🙂 The little guy was SO happy during the whole session (except if he had to touch the grass with his bare legs haha) When I was trying to get photos of his parents interacting with him, he just kept looking at me and smiling. He was not about to blow his big moment!

We ended the session with a cake smash (I loveeee when parents decide to do this— and especially when they are willing to get messy, too). It was this little guy’s first experience with cake so he wasn’t sure what to make of it at first. After mom and dad showed him that it was ok, he got into it. The longer I have been doing this, the better prepared I am for this part of the session… I bring wipes and a garbage bag now LOL. Overall, it was a gorgeous night and I was so happy to be celebrating this amazing milestone with this beautiful family and their precious miracle baby.
