Boho Mother’s Day Mini Sessions:
The Style Guide
Inspiration: Vintage, timeless, romantic, whimsical.
(Disclaimer: This information is merely to serve as a guide, or starting point.)
Loose, flowy fits
Romantic dresses/kimonos with fun elements and textures like lace, eyelet, ruffles, crochet. “Swish-ability.” Off shoulder and lower necklines (for women) can be beautiful. Dresses should not be bulky, baggy or formless.
(Recommended stores: Baltic Born, Amazon, Lulus, Joyfolie, )
Color. Or Not.
Delicate floral prints can be beautiful (either more brightly colored or muted) as well as solid white or neutral colored items. To stick with a romantic boho look, if you are incorporating color, go with earthier tones.
Timeless Pieces for Boys
For boys, think timeless. Avoid logos and words on clothing. Button down shirts or henleys work well. Suspenders add a fun touch. Khakis or gray pants/shorts. Overalls.
Accessorize.
Elements that can add variety to your session and “flare” include:
-
wide brim/fedora style hats
-
fringe/braided belts
-
chunky or delicate shawls/ oversized scarf/ slouchy knit cardigans
-
long, layered necklaces
-
flower crowns
-
(boys): suspenders, fedora style hat, vests
Footwear.
For women/girls: Ankle booties, gladiator sandals, strappy lace-up sandals, chunky clogs in natural, warm hues
For boys: boat shoes or boots in natural, warm hues
Tying it Together.
Choose a palette of tones and try to limit the number of people with prints/patterns. Start with one statement piece (i.e. mom’s dress) and then coordinate the other outfits with that. You can draw colors from that statement piece. When in doubt, go neutral!
Add in accessories to tie together outfits and add fun pops/variety.
